The mission of the Shelbyville-Bedford Community Foundation is to support initiatives that enhance education, quality of life, and quality of place.
Current Initiatives include:
Bedford County Schools Teacher Grant Program
The TEACHER GRANT PROGRAM provides BCS teachers two opportunities annually to win a grant to implement innovative programs and activities that fall outside the Bedford County School annual curriculum budget. This grant aims to increase as many opportunities as possible for educators to enhance the learning experience of the children of Bedford County. The TEACHER GRANT PROGRAM also exists to help reduce the personal financial burden teachers often face when they use personal funds to purchase classroom supplies and materials. The residents and businesses of Bedford County can channel their support for the outstanding educators in our community into measurable, impactful action.
Suppose every resident and business gives to the TEACHER GRANT PROGRAM. More teachers can receive grant awards, more innovation can be brought to the classroom, student engagement will grow, and the entire community will benefit. Investing in our teachers is investing in our children.
Connected Community 5k
Take in beautiful Bedford County and Shelbyville one step at time to the finish line!
Community participants will not only run and walk together, we will train together, raise money together, improve our health together, and be part of local history together at this event. The CC5K is for everyone, from the curious novice to community members well-versed in fitness, and offers an opportunity for personal growth and improvement. This sustainable fundraiser will benefit all of Bedford County as an annual event encouraging collaboration and community outreach. The Run/Walk aims to connect community members, Bedford County Schools, local businesses and industry, civic organizations, and community leaders. Training programs will be implemented in BCS elementary, middle, and high schools to teach students safe race and wellness skills and to spark a love of physical activity for long-term wellness.
Enjoy a course that showcases Shelbyville and Bedford County, provides motivation and music for 3.2 miles and ends on the Historic Shelbyville square with a after race party to celebrate the success of all participants and showcase community businesses and organizations! Imagine the sense of gratification and fulfillment from knowing you were part of a fundraiser benefiting the community you call home! Your imagination can be our reality. Please join us and be a part of an event that will become the best day in May!
F.A.C.E. (Friends Applauding Community Enhancement) Project
The Shelbyville-Bedford Community Foundation has formed a committee focused on beautifying Shelbyville and Bedford County. The FACE PROJECT committee develops programs that honor and promote the enhancement of private properties and public spaces via three primary efforts. The FACE Awards encourages residents and business owners to improve and renovate their properties, contributing to a cleaner, more attractive environment. The second effort focuses on art installations in public places, which will add immediate appeal while recognizing and promoting local artists and honoring the rich and storied history of Bedford County through commissioned works of art. The third focus of the beautification committee is eradicating blight from our neighborhoods.
Imagine every resident feeling pride in and benefitting from the positive social, emotional, and psychological impact of a cleaner, more beautiful, better Bedford County.
Leadership Bedford
At Leadership Bedford, we aim to develop local leaders with leadership skills who are informed about our community's critical issues. We empower our leaders to drive meaningful progress and inspire community action by fostering a deeper understanding of these challenges.
Each year, we select 20 adults and 20 high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential and a commitment to community engagement. These individuals embark on a journey that prepares them to take on greater responsibilities in business, government, and community organizations. Through our program, they gain a practical and comprehensive understanding of Bedford County’s most promising opportunities and pressing problems, instilling the confidence to lead effectively.
Your support of Leadership Bedford is an investment in the future of our community. With your help, we can continue to nurture leaders ready to tackle tomorrow's challenges and seize the opportunities that will shape the future of Bedford County.
Join us in our mission to create a legacy of leadership. Your donation will directly impact the growth of our program and, in turn, the prosperity of our community. Together, we can make Bedford County a better place for everyone!
